About My Knitting

I knit and crochet dog sweaters and hats. I write my own patterns. I use the “Julie” method of knitting, which is kind of a modified Continental, because it is easiest for me, though it is a little slow. I tried knitting socks but found it boring. Ditto human sweaters. I have knitted about 17 dog sweaters, all for Puzzle. She is the best dressed Schnoodle you can find about anywhere.

I use knitting to cope with my eating disorder.  For a while, I knitted far too much.  I spent hours knitting, far into the night sometimes.  Knitting pushed everything aside and begged for attention.  Now, I don’t knit as much.  I think it would help me if I spent more time knitting.  Knitting is said to help symptoms of eating disorders, namely obsessive thinking about food, weight, and body size and shape.  It also can delay destructive behaviors such as–in my case–bingeing, ritual cooking and food preparation, obsessive meal planning, calorie counting (that is, looking up calorie counts on the Internet), and other related obsessive thinking.  There have actually been studies done on knitting and anorexia.  At the eating disorders facility where I was hospitalized, I’d say maybe 90 percent of the patients knitted–constantly.

If you have a ravelry.com account, you can view and read about most of my dog sweaters (and matching hats) at http://www.ravelry.com/people/QBoulevard.  I say “most” because my inventory isn’t quite updated yet!  I’m working on it!
